In computer class this week, 5A built on the map skills they are learning in Social Studies by reading and discussing the pros and cons of digital and paper maps.

Students read excerpts from a Wall Street Journal article entitled "Even as we Navigate the Digital Era, Paper Maps Refuse to Fold." http://on.wsj.com/1EmNDkI
The students then used facts from the article to collaboratively create a chart outlining the benefits of both types of maps. Students were surprised to see that in their chart, paper maps had more benefits! They also learned that the Google Maps office has paper maps hung up on its walls (shown below) and that the director of Google Maps often prefers paper maps!
